Project Overview
As part of a pedestrian accessibility improvement initiative, the City of Pitt Meadows introduced tactile detectable warning surfaces at four intersections to enhance safety and independent navigation for blind and visually impaired pedestrians.
Vanguard ADA Systems supplied its liquid-applied Detectable Dome system, with TransCanada Vanguard completing the surface preparation and installation. The raised dome pattern provides a distinct change in texture that can be detected underfoot or with a mobility cane, warning pedestrians as they approach the transition between the sidewalk and roadway.
Designed for durability, slip resistance and long-term outdoor performance, the system provides a reliable accessibility solution for high-traffic pedestrian crossings. TransCanada Vanguard successfully completed installations at all four intersections within five days while minimizing disruption to the surrounding community.
